Malala Fund is proud to publish our latest annual report, covering April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021. In an unprecedented year, the support of our donors allowed Malala Fund to respond to compounding crises, helping girls continue learning in the face of COVID-19, climate change, racial injustice, conflict and more. The 2020–2021 Annual Report documents these efforts and shows how Malala Fund was able to increase our investment in girls’ education and reach more students than ever before.

Responding to the COVID-19 crisis’s effect on girls’ education was one of the organisation’s main priorities during this period. Supported by our network of partners, Malala Fund worked quickly to provide our Education Champions in Afghanistan, Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey with the resources they needed to pivot their programmes and help girls continue learning remotely. As a result of Malala Fund’s efforts, over 10 million girls around the world were able to continue their studies during school closures.

This year Malala Fund also explored the impact of climate change on girls' education, expanded our organisation with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, and increased our reach through Assembly, publishing content by girls in over 100 countries. The report includes reflections from our board chair and co-founder, Malala, breakdowns of our investments and financials, and details about our programmatic and advocacy approaches.

We hope the 2020–2021 Annual Report helps our donors understand the impact of their investment in Malala Fund. Each one of the initiatives highlighted in the report helped more girls learn and lead this year — and each one was made possible by their support.

As the world faces a looming girls’ education crisis, our work together has never been more important. Thank you for believing in a world where every girl can learn and lead.
