Parampreet Singh joins Malala Fund as Chief, External Affairs

Parampreet, a seasoned human rights advocate and legal expert, will oversee the organisation’s global advocacy and strategic communications work.

Malala Fund is excited to welcome Parampreet Singh as Chief of External Affairs. She brings over two decades of experience advancing justice, accountability and protecting women and girls’ rights at the international level.

She joins Malala Fund at a critical moment, as the organisation begins implementing its 2025-2030 strategy focused on protecting the rights and unlocking the resources girls need to access and complete secondary education. As Chief of External Affairs, Parampreet will lead efforts to influence international policy and financing frameworks and strengthen Malala Fund’s voice and visibility in the global education and gender equality sectors.

“Parampreet’s leadership reflects the scale of our ambition,” said Malala Fund CEO Lena Alfi. “Her deep experience in international law, coalition-building and advocacy will help position Malala Fund to challenge the systems that keep girls out of school — from gender policies to global financing rules.”

Prior to joining Malala Fund, Parampreet served in multiple leadership roles at Human Rights Watch, including in the Executive Office and the International Justice Program. There, she led high-level advocacy on grave human rights violations and accountability mechanisms in countries including Afghanistan, Myanmar, North Korea and the Philippines. She began her career as a litigator with the Department of Justice in Canada and later worked with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo on human rights and the rule of law.

As Malala Fund continues to push for progress in securing girls’ right to education and reforming global finance rules to unlock education funding for lower-income countries, Parampreet’s appointment signals the organisation’s growing role in shaping global policy at the highest levels.

“I’m honoured to join Malala Fund at a time when defending every girl’s right to learn is more urgent than ever,” said Parampreet. “Around the world, girls are facing multiple layers of exclusion — from systemic gender discrimination to economic injustice. I am looking forward to working with girls to change the policies and power structures that hold them back and ensuring they have the freedom and resources to shape their own futures.”

In addition to her advocacy work, Parampreet is a mentor and leader in the human rights field. She has led fellowship programmes for early career advocates and held positions as a Wasserstein Public Interest Fellow at Harvard Law School, a Senior Visiting Human Rights Fellow at Yale University and a Women inPower Fellow at 92NY.
