Everywhere I go, I speak with girls who are determined to learn no matter the odds.
This summer in Tanzania, I met with girls supported by Malala Fund’s partners. They told me about the enormous barriers they face to learning — from school fees and violence in classrooms to forced marriage and early pregnancy. Despite these challenges, girls walk miles to attend class, study by candlelight after long days of work and raise their voices for their right to education, even when it puts their safety at risk.
Their courage reminds me of my own journey, and of two powerful truths: girls will stop at nothing to learn, and their education is the most effective solution to many of the world’s greatest problems.
Thirteen years ago today, I was attacked for speaking out for my right to go to school. I survived, and every day since, I have used my voice to fight for the millions of girls who still cannot learn freely and safely.
Because when a girl goes to school, everything changes. She is more likely to escape poverty, contribute to economic growth, improve her family’s health, ensure her children are educated and help build peace in her community.
Today, millions of girls are still denied the right to learn. War, inequality and political inaction continue to limit their opportunities and silence their dreams.
Girls are already doing their part — dreaming big, being brave and leading change. Now we must do ours.
When you invest in girls’ education, you invest in a better world today and for generations to come.
Girls stop at nothing to make their dreams come true. Neither should we. Will you join me?
With gratitude,
Malala
