Girls from Brazil, India, Iraq, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan and Syria participated in this series.
Malala Fund published today the first video in “Roll Call,” a new eight-episode YouTube series featuring girls from around the world. Filmed by the girls themselves, each episode takes viewers into their daily lives — their aspirations, struggles, fears, friendships and families — all in their own words.
"Roll Call” follows girls from Brazil, India, Iraq, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan and Syria. In the first video, 20-year-old Yazidi refugee Nibras describes navigating life in the U.S., thousands of miles away from the village in northern Iraq where she grew up. In future episodes, girls vlog about experiences like forming a robotics team at school or living in a marginalised Indigenous community.
"We want girls to share what life is like for them in different parts of the world — the exciting and mundane bits, their goals, challenges and achievements — all on their own terms,” said Bhumika Regmi, Digital Manager at Malala Fund. "I hope young women watching ‘Roll Call’ can see themselves in the girls who are featured in the series and feel inspired to share their own stories and raise their voices for things that matter to them.”
Following "Roll Call,” Malala Fund will continue sharing video content on YouTube to introduce viewers to young female leaders and give audiences a better understanding of the challenges girls face, particularly related to education.
"We are deeply honored that Malala Fund is tapping into the global community of the YouTube platform to raise awareness of their critical work in advocating for girls’ education — and to inspire young women to act on their goals and aspirations regardless of location or circumstance,” said Yalin Solmaz, YouTube Partnerships, EMEA. "We’re looking forward to watching these inspiring stories come to life in the ‘Roll Call’ series and beyond.”
With new content released weekly over the next several months, audiences can expect to watch videos breaking down the latest research around girls’ education and introducing members of the Education Champion Network, the group of education activists supported by Malala Fund that are breaking down barriers to girls’ education in countries where most girls miss out on school.
New videos will premiere every Monday at 2:00 pm UTC on youtube.com/malalafund.
